Laser engraving removes material to form a recessed mark. It suits applications where the identification needs a physical profile in the surface.

How the process works
Depth, character size and cycle time are interdependent. A deeper mark needs a different approach from a fine logo or shallow part number.
We review artwork, access to the surface and fixture needs before defining the job. Color fill can be discussed when a recessed mark also needs added visual contrast.
Material & finish considerations
Provide the exact metal or other substrate and any finish already on the part. Engraving can cut through a coating and change the exposed surface.
Thin walls, small features and cosmetic surfaces need particular attention. Identify restricted areas and maximum permitted material removal.
For painted or plated components, state whether finishing follows engraving. This affects both appearance and the required engraving profile.
Common applications
Tooling and fixtures: durable identification, ownership marks, tool numbers and reference positions.
Components and hardware: recessed text, logos and identifiers on accessible flat or shaped surfaces.
Tags and plates: permanent identification for equipment, assets and manufacturing assemblies.
Information needed for a quote
Send the artwork, material, part size, quantity and mark location. State depth requirements explicitly if the drawing controls them.
Identify expected wear, refinishing or cleaning exposure so the mark can be evaluated for its actual use.
Include required appearance, inspection method and any first-piece approval. Final depth and achievable detail are application-specific.
Common questions
What is the difference between laser marking and engraving? Laser engraving removes material to create a recessed mark. Other laser marking methods change the surface appearance without the same recessed profile. The material, finish and drawing determine the process.
