Define the actual marking area
Show the boundaries of the text, logo or code on the part drawing. Include orientation and any nearby features. A long component with one small identifier presents a different problem from a large graphic covering most of a flat panel. Quoting either job from overall length alone leaves the important work undefined.
Ask how positioning will be managed
Some jobs may require more than one setup or region of work. Ask the supplier to explain how location and alignment will be controlled. If a continuous graphic crosses regions, the acceptance requirement should address the finished appearance and registration. Do not assume that a large machine footprint means unlimited uninterrupted marking area.
Include handling and access
Overall weight, attachments and fragile features can affect how a component reaches the station and is supported. State whether the part is supplied loose or assembled. Identify surfaces that cannot be used for clamping. A practical feasibility review considers transport, positioning, mark access and inspection together. This is the basis for discussing larger parts without making an unsupported “any size” promise.
