Understand the category
Fiber laser markers are commonly used for metal marking and engraving. The source name alone does not establish a system’s usable field, depth capability or performance on a particular material. Manufacturer model specifications matter. A photograph of a marking head usually cannot identify the complete source and control configuration behind it.
Ask about the application
Present the actual material, finish, dimensions and mark requirement before asking whether a fiber system is suitable. Include any restriction on surface change. If comparing systems, use representative parts and the same approved artwork. A demonstration on an easy sample is not a production acceptance test for a different alloy or geometry.
Distinguish equipment from service scope
An installed machine is only part of a supplier’s capability. Workholding, data preparation, handling and inspection determine what is included in the job. Request a process proposal and defined deliverables rather than relying on a wattage number as a quality measure.
