Describe the paint system
Provide the coating specification and the condition in which the part will arrive. Include any relevant masking or preparation instructions. A color name alone does not describe the finish. If the marking must preserve an underlying primer or leave the base material covered, make that a written requirement rather than a verbal preference.
Agree on the inspection area
Show the intended mark location and nearby cosmetic or functional features. Review a representative sample under the customer’s receiving conditions. If an image is used to communicate appearance, pair it with an identifiable physical reference when practical. Identify whether edge quality, contrast or complete readability is the controlling characteristic.
Plan rework before it is needed
Ask how a wrong mark or damaged coating will be handled. Repainting or overmarking should not happen without the appropriate approval. Define who decides whether a part can be reworked and how that decision is recorded. On repeat orders, communicate coating supplier or process changes so the marking setup can be reviewed before a full batch is processed.
