Choose what will be checked
Typical review points include content, location, orientation and appearance. Additional requirements may include depth or code verification. Assign each requirement an acceptance method and an approver. A general “looks good” email can be insufficient if the drawing controls dimensions or a downstream system needs a specific data format.
Use a representative part
The first piece should represent the production material, finish and geometry. If a substitute coupon is used for preliminary development, record that limitation. Identify any later treatment or assembly needed before final approval. Do not release a full lot on a sample that has not yet passed a required downstream evaluation.
Record the approval scope
Identify the drawing revision, artwork revision and sample or serial number in the approval. State whether production may proceed and whether any conditions remain open. Keep the record available to both purchasing and the supplier. A later change to finish, geometry or mark content should be reviewed against that approval rather than assumed to be covered by it.
